Our Rating

7 / 10

Most dash cams feel like an add-on to your car, but the Wolfbox G900 Pro integrates with your existing rearview mirror for a more seamless experience. I had the opportunity to test this dash cam with both front and rear cameras to answer the question of whether the bulk of the device matters more than the clear footage it provides.

Sophisticated Design With Large Touchscreen

If you’re like me, you’re used to small dash cams with a tiny screen. They work well enough, but it’s hard to view any footage without transferring it to your phone or computer. The Wolfbox G900 Pro is just slightly larger than the average rearview mirror and the entire mirrored surface is a touchscreen. Outside of the cables attached at the top of the mirror dash cam, it blends in well inside your car.

Crystal Clear Footage Front and Back

When used together, the Wolfbox G900 Pro provides 4K (30fps / 8MP) front and 2.5K (30fps / 5MP) rear resolutions. Thanks to the Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 technology, the glass lens captures ultra-clear footage, even in low-light conditions. If you only use the front cam, the clarity’s even better at 5K.

At night, the 1/1.8″ sensor combines with 2DNR+3DNR noise reduction to drastically reduce the graininess associated with filming at night. This makes it much easier to see small details that could be missed with other dash cams.

The large screen lets you switch easily between both camera views and even shows a dual screen view.

Easy to Customize and Control

I love that there are three ways to control the Wolfbox G900 Pro: touchscreen, voice, and app. The touchscreen features a large menu with easy-to-read icons. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier with how friendly the touchscreen and menu are. Everything’s intuitive, and there are plenty of options to customize the experience, such as changing the volume, adjusting brightness, turning audio recording on/off, setting the time format, and more.

Options are fairly limited with the voice controls, but they’re perfect for when you’re driving. You can:

  • Turn the screen on/off
  • Switch between front, rear, and dual screen
  • Lock videos
  • Turn recording on/off
  • Turn Wi-Fi on/off
  • Take pictures

Of course, there’s also the Wi-Fi connected Wolfbox app. It features many of the same settings as the camera itself. Plus, you can check out recorded footage and download files to keep. Downloads are fairly fast, thanks to the 5.8GHz Wi-Fi connection.

All the Features You’d Want in a Dash Cam

Naturally, you want clear footage and easy controls, but the Wolfbox G900 Pro doesn’t stop at the basics. You also get a variety of important and useful features, such as:

  • 24-hour parking monitor
  • Battery protection (no drain)
  • Collision detection
  • Parking assist
  • GPS
  • Desktop player to view all details, such as GPS, speed, date, etc.
  • 128 GB SD card included (inside the camera already), but supports up to 512 GB
SD card and top ports.
  • IP67 waterproof rear camera
  • 12 voice commands
  • Support for multiple video types

Everything You Need for Installation

The Wolfbox G900 Pro is a full kit with everything you need for installation. The well-packaged kit includes:

Wolfbox G900 Pro kit and parts.
  • G900 Pro mirror camera
  • Rear camera
  • 10 ft. hardwire kit
  • 11.5 ft. power supply cable
  • Car wire trim tool
  • 20 ft. rear camera cable
  • GPS
  • User manual
  • Cable clips
  • 3M adhesive
  • Straps (for front camera)

I’d highly recommend watching the video on Wolfbox’s site to see how to install everything. Not that the user manual doesn’t provide ample info, as it does.

Installing the Wolfbox G900 Pro

For the most part, installing the dash cam is pretty straightforward. I started by connecting the front dash cam to the power port and formatting the SD card as stated in the manual. This only takes a minute.

I connected the straps to the back of the camera and secured the camera to my rearview mirror. I could tell just by lifting the dash cam that this was going to be problematic. The camera is heavy and pulls the rearview mirror down, making it nearly impossible to adjust the angle. While the mirrored dash cam does work as a rearview mirror, I never could get it angled where I could actually use it as such.

Outside of that obstacle, setting up the camera itself was easy. I adjusted the time, set my preferences for volume and recording, and connected the Wolfbox app to the camera.

Next up, I installed the rear camera. I have an older car (a 2003 Chevy), and the way my car’s made, I’m not able to connect the camera to my backup light wires, so no parking assist for me. But I was able to run the rear camera, and attach it near my license plate for testing purposes.

Even with a larger vehicle, there would be ample wire to run the rear camera. And, the trim tool makes quick work of hiding the excess cable.

The final step was to install the GPS. This is a tiny box that sits on your dash. The instructions stated to put it as close to the windshield as possible for more accurate results. I placed mine next to the windshield on the passenger side. Once the wires were tucked away, I hardly noticed it. A 3M strip attaches it safely, and during my testing, it never moved an inch.

Using the Mirrored Dash Cam

The Wolfbox G900 Pro didn’t disappoint when it comes to clear footage. The moment the car turns on, it starts recording. I set it for 3-minute loop recording, but you can adjust this however you want.

I tested the voice controls before setting off on my first test drive. They work perfectly. It was nice once I started driving to quickly switch between camera views with just my voice. Since the front camera was too heavy for me to adjust the rearview mirror, I had to rely on the rear camera to see more clearly behind me.

By the time I had everything installed, it was nearly dark, so my first test was night driving. Both the front and rear cameras picked up incredibly clear footage, even with no other cars or lights around. I didn’t notice the graininess that often comes with cams at night, especially rear cams.

Even though I didn’t have the parking assist, I used a voice command to switch to the rear camera and didn’t have any trouble using that as a backup camera.

As well as the Wolfbox G900 Pro performed at night, it’s even better during the day. I left it connected during the night just to see if it caused any battery issues, but I had no problems during my test period.

The sound recording works well, but I did turn it off. After all, I really don’t need to know how I sound singing along with my favorite music. Just let me imagine I’m great as I belt out Queen and Def Leppard.

On the camera itself, I couldn’t see the road in front of me. Due to the rearview being pulled down, I just saw trees and sky. But, the footage was clear and crisp. To my surprise, when I played back the videos, the road and surrounding area were on full display. The camera actually films more than what you see on the screen itself.

The GPS was accurate. It pinpointed exactly where I was and displayed the same speed as my speedometer.

Overall, both photos and videos looked amazing on the front and rear cameras.

Using the Wolfbox Apps

You can take the SD card out of the Wolfbox G900 Pro, insert it into your computer, and use the desktop Wolfbox player to view footage and details.

Or, download footage directly to your mobile device with the Wolfbox mobile app. Just connect to the camera’s Wi-Fi network, and you’re all set. I was shocked at how stable and fast the connection was. I had no issues playing back video or downloading anything.

Final Thoughts

The Wolfbox G900 Pro is an impressive dash cam for crystal clear footage. Even the rear cam shows every small detail without any blurring or graininess. The major downside is the front camera is heavy and may make it impossible to adjust your rearview mirror. Plus, it won’t be compatible with vehicles without a traditional rearview mirror to connect to.

Outside of that, I loved everything about this dash cam. It was easy to use and set up and provides all the features I’d expect in a high-quality dash cam.
